tvOS 26.1 released: Apple TV gets its new identity

Apple has officially released the tvOS 26.1 update for Apple TV 4K and other models. The latest version focuses on performance and stability improvements while introducing a refreshed design for the Apple TV app. The update is part of Apple’s wider 26.1 software rollout, which also includes iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, and Vision Pro devices.

Apple TV app gets a new look and name

The most notable change in tvOS 26.1 is the redesigned Apple TV app and its updated branding. Apple recently completed its rebranding process, retiring the “Apple TV+” name and simplifying it to “Apple TV.” The app now features a new icon with brighter color tones and cleaner lines, reflecting Apple’s modern design language. All “TV+” logos have been removed, and the updated identity has been implemented across the entire interface.

While there are no major visual overhauls elsewhere in the system, tvOS 26.1 delivers noticeable performance enhancements. Apple reports smoother app transitions, improved video streaming optimization, and better HomeKit integration. The update also refines interface animations for a more consistent and fluid experience across the system.

On the technical side, Apple TV 4K models benefit from increased AirPlay stability and improved Wi-Fi 6E performance. Users have also reported faster startup times and reduced app loading durations following the update.

Developers examining the update’s internal code have found references to an upcoming Apple Intelligence-powered content recommendation system. Once activated, this feature is expected to analyze viewing habits and deliver personalized content suggestions. However, Apple has not yet announced when this functionality will go live.

tvOS 26.1 was released alongside iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, macOS Tahoe 26.1, watchOS 26.1, visionOS 26.1, and HomePod 26.1 marking a major ecosystem-wide stability update.

Apple TV users can install tvOS 26.1 wirelessly by navigating to Settings > System > Software Update. Apple recommends all users upgrade, as the update not only enhances performance but also completes the rollout of the Apple TV’s new brand identity across devices.
