Apple is moving forward with the iPhone Air lineup despite the first model’s lower-than-expected sales. According to reliable sources, the development of the second-generation iPhone Air is progressing as planned. The new model is said to bring notable changes to both its design and camera setup.
iPhone Air 2 design and specifications leaked
According to details shared on Weibo, the iPhone Air 2 will maintain its ultra-thin and lightweight design. The device will feature a 6.5-inch high-refresh-rate display that supports 3D facial recognition. Apple is expected to retain the horizontal camera bar design that defined the first iPhone Air.

The biggest upgrade will be on the camera side. Apple is reportedly testing a dual rear camera system for the iPhone Air 2, combining a 48-megapixel main sensor with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens. This marks a significant improvement over the single-camera setup of the original iPhone Air.
Under the hood, the new model is expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 or A20 Pro chip, developed alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 series. These chips promise notable gains in both performance and power efficiency compared to previous generations.
Reports indicate that the iPhone Air 2 will be part of Apple’s 2026 product roadmap, launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable phone. Other models in the series, such as the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, are expected to arrive in early 2027.
Although the image shared by Digital Chat Station is not representative of the final product, it provides an idea of the design direction. The leaks suggest that Apple has no plans to discontinue the iPhone Air series, but instead aims to reposition it with stronger hardware and an upgraded camera system.
