Instagram is introducing several updates to its direct messaging (DM) system, aiming to enhance user engagement and streamline communication. These updates include real-time message translations, message scheduling, pinned messages, improved music sharing, and QR code invitations for group chats.
Instagram Enhances DMs with Translation, Scheduling, and More
One of the most notable features is in-stream message translation, allowing users to communicate more easily across different languages. Powered by Meta’s translation system, this feature supports 99 languages, providing a seamless messaging experience for international conversations. This enhancement is expected to improve global interactions and assist businesses in reaching broader audiences.

Another significant addition is message scheduling, enabling users to schedule messages up to 29 days in advance. While this may not be widely used by regular users, businesses and content creators could benefit from this feature by planning their messages ahead of time.
Instagram is also introducing pinned messages, allowing users to pin up to three messages at the top of one-on-one or group chats. This feature can help users keep track of important messages, reminders, or frequently shared content within conversations.
Additionally, Instagram is expanding its music-sharing capabilities by introducing a music-sharing sticker in DMs. This feature builds on Instagram’s growing integration of music within the platform, providing users with more ways to share and engage with their favorite songs.
Finally, Instagram is adding group QR code invitations, making it easier to invite new members to group chats. Each group will have a unique QR code that users can share, allowing others to join the conversation quickly and effortlessly.
These updates align with Instagram’s broader focus on direct messaging as a primary means of user interaction. With Instagram planning to emphasize messaging further in 2025, these new features contribute to improving the app’s communication tools and overall engagement. The new updates are rolling out gradually and will be available globally in the coming weeks.
