Apple is taking a major step toward reinventing Siri with the help of Google’s artificial intelligence technology. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is close to finalizing a deal that would see the company pay around $1 billion annually for a custom version of Google’s Gemini AI model. This advanced system will serve as the foundation for the next-generation Siri experience.
Siri enters a new era powered by Gemini
Until now, Apple has relied solely on its own AI systems for Siri and Apple Intelligence. The upcoming agreement marks the first time the company will integrate an external AI model into its ecosystem. The customized Gemini model will serve as a temporary solution while Apple continues developing its own in-house large-scale AI. During this transition, Siri will gain major improvements in context understanding, response accuracy, and multitasking capabilities.

The Gemini model designed for Apple will feature 1.2 trillion parameters a figure that represents the model’s complexity and processing power. This is roughly eight times higher than Apple’s current cloud-based AI systems, which use 150 billion parameters. The increased scale will allow Siri to generate more natural, context-aware, and precise responses across languages and applications.
Before choosing Google, Apple reportedly tested AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic. After evaluating performance and security standards, Apple decided to move forward with Gemini, largely due to Google’s scalable cloud infrastructure and strong data protection framework.
The next-generation Siri is expected to launch in the spring of 2026. Apple will initially run Gemini via cloud-based servers but plans to enable smaller, on-device versions of the model in later updates. This will be Apple’s most comprehensive AI integration to date under the Apple Intelligence initiative.
The agreement will also strengthen Apple’s long-standing partnership with Google. Currently, Google serves as the default search engine in Safari, a deal that brings Apple roughly $20 billion in annual revenue. With the Gemini collaboration, the partnership is expanding into the field of artificial intelligence. Apple is expected to officially announce the deal sometime in 2025 and roll out the Gemini-powered Siri to users in the first half of 2026.
